World Cafe Live, Aug 29, 2009

World Cafe was fun and well attended. We sold more merch here than anywhere else on the trip. The sound was good and the audience was enthusiastic. I hope we get to play here again. The last time we played the Cafe was December 2004.

Circle Line Rockin' the River, 8/28/09

Even with the threat of sour weather from TS Danny, the show went on. Two shows on the boat and two trips around Manhattan, co-billed with Marcia Ball. Roswell Rudd sat in with the band for the first set ane we played his 'Bamako' much to his surprise. Today, off to Philly.

Ram's Head, 8/26/09

It was a good show last night at the Ram's Head, and the audiene was enthusiastic. We also sold more merchandise than previous shows. The Ram's Head has always been a good room for the band, and the food and the beer are just swell (not swill). Next up: Circle Line cruise in NYC.

Norvell Band Shell, Manhattan, KS, Aug 22, 2009

It was a long day yesterday: we left from home on the day of the show, which is kind of unusual for us. However, in light of the battered economy, it was cheaper not to have to pay for an extra hotel night. The show was good, and we were received well. The weather was very nice and the cicadas were very active. Now we're on the road to MCI. Next show is the Ram's Head on Thursday.

The Art Center, Carrboro, NC

Date: August 9, 2009 11:28 AM Topic: The Art Center, Carrboro, NC It was another trip to the Art Center in Carrboro. It's always been a good venue for the group, and this time was no different. Lots of tickets were sold and I think the show was close to a sell out. Instead of playing two sets, which would have increased our merchandise sales, we opted for one long set, one very long set, 2 hours worth. Sometimes I think making decisions like playing a long set isn't always a good idea. It's hard to perform that long, but I do know that it's sets like that which go into the record books. I don't think anyone had a bad time. I do think we wore out the audience, however.

Aug 7, Black Mountain, NC

The drive from Kingsport to Ashville was beautiful. We left Kingsport at noon, ate at Panera, and got to the studios of AM880 in Asheville at 2:46. We did a promo for the show at the White Horse. The turnout for the show was good mainly on account of the radio show we did. The White Horse is a nice music hall, and we all hope to play there again.

Aug 6, Kingsport, TN

It was a long day getting to Kingsport: flying in on the day of the show is never easy. But we got to Kingsport and played the show. The concert was a free downtown show, and most of the town came out for the event.

Dosey Doe Cafe, The Woodlands, TX

Our second performance date at the Dosey Doe wasn't as well attended as our first, but we played a very good set. The food was good and our audience was vert appreciative. A note: it's amazing who plays at the 'Doe: just take a look at the pictures adorning the walls.

Casbeer's by the Church, San Antonio, TX

Date: August 1, 2009 10:16 AM Topic: Casbeer's by the Church, San Antonio, TX Casbeer's is an interesting place. The food is good, and the music venue is upstairs in an old church. The sound is quite good, but it's only problem is that there is no real room for dancing. Despite that there is no dance floor, artists feel appreciated, and generally Casbeer's is a good performance place.
